Marc Jancou Contemporary a le plaisir d’annoncer l'exposition Le Reste Parfait de Torsten Slama. Il s’agit de notre troisième exposition avec l’artiste et de la première exposition en solo.
L'artiste Torsten Slama est notamment connu pour ses oeuvres qui sont à certains égards un retour à la peinture allemande d'il y a près d'un siècle, en particulier, la “Neue Sachlichkeit” ou “Nouvelle Objectivité” des années 1920-1930. L’exposition Le Reste Parfait rassemble de récents dessins sur papier et huiles sur toile proposant des scènes architecturales, des paysages, tout comme des images plus figuratives que Slama sait remplir de détails méticuleux et de récits savamment mystérieux.
Alors que Slama a su maîtriser l’inquiétante étrangeté symbolique et la touche satirique de ses maîtres de la Nouvelle Objectivité que sont Christian Schad, Carl Grossberg et Otto Dix, il a également su faire sienne cette iconographie en produisant des images sciences-fictionnelles très finement adaptées à notre présent - et à notre futur.
Torsten Slama (né à Schwarzach, Autriche en 1967) a été diplômé à la Staatliche Kunstakademie de Düsseldorf, en Allemagne en 1992. En 2009, il réalise sa première exposition personnelle pour un musée au Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. Il a également été exposé au Museum De Hallen, à Haarlem aux Pays-Bas ainsi qu’à la Deichtorhallen de Hambourg en Allemagne. Il peut être trouvé dans la collection permanente du Museum of Modern Art de New York.
Torsten Slama : Le Reste Parfait sera visible du 19 mars au 23 mai 2015. Marc Jancou Contemporary est situé au 63, rue des Bains, à Genève. Marc Jancou Contemporary is pleased to announce Torsten Slama: Le Reste Parfait a selection of approximately 11 new drawings and paintings by Torsten Slama. This is our third exhibition featuring the artist and our first solo show. The exhibition will be on view March 19th through May 23rd, 2015. A reception for the artist will be held Thursday, March 18th from 6:00-9:00 pm.
Slama suspends the rules of physics in favor of his poetic imagination. In Slama’s world, floating geometric shapes can effortlessly co-exist with modernist architecture and sci-fi landscapes. His subjects are consistently architectural and mechanical, and noticeable absent of humans. Is this a utopic world better off without humans, or more unsettling, is this a post-apocalyptic world erased of humanity? One is never quite sure.
Torsten Slama (b. Schwarzach, Austria, 1967) graduated from Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Germany in 1992. Slama was featured in a major solo exhibition at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Texas in 2009. He additionally has shown at Museum de Hallen, Haarlem, The Netherlands; Deichtorhallen, Hamburg, Germany; and can be found in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
