Press Release

Marc Jancou Contemporary presents an exhibition of works on paper by Otto Meyer Amden in Rossinière, Switzerland as part of OFFSITE: MARC JANCOU CHALET.

Otto Meyer-Amden (1885-1933) was an influential and dynamic artist in Switzerland in the early 20th century whose work remains unappreciated and legacy not fully understood. The most recent major exhibition of his work was an exhibition of his early work at the Kunstmuseum Winterthur, Switzerland in 2015. Marc Jancou Contemporary also held an exhibition of Meyer-Amden's work in 2015, placing his drawings in the context of a group exhibition with Heidi Bucher and Andy Warhol.

This exhibition will bring together works that have never been shown together, concentrating on works on paper made during his later period when Meyer-Amden lived in an artist community in the mountain village Amden, which lies above the Walensee. The works presented focus on his use of the figure, particular the young male form and well as portraiture and observational drawing during this period. The compositions of this selection of work are drawn from memory as well as his surroundings. The diversity of mark making and moods evident in this exhibitions will typify the experimentation and tension in Meyer-Amden's work between figuration and abstraction, organic and geometric, spirituality, ethereal imagination and concrete observation.
