Biography

Otto Meyer-Amden (1885-1933) was a painter and graphic artist born in Bern, Switzerland. He lived and worked in Zürich, Switzerland. Meyer-Amden trained as a lithographer before attending the School of Arts and Crafts in Zurich. Hhe later joined the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart in 1907. 

Meyer-Amden's work contains a multitude of mark making, moods and experimentation and tension between figuration and abstraction, organic and geometric, spirituality, ethereal imagination and concrete observation. His observations of everyday scenes are permeated with a sense of the unreal that transcends true reality.
