Press Release

“…it no longer matters whether a painting is concrete or abstract. This all has become one big playground anyway.”

Albrecht Schnider, interviewed by Friedrich Meschede for Das noch Mögliche: ‘What is still possible’ Exhibition Catalogue (2006)

Marc Jancou Contemporary is pleased to present Pastels, by Albrecht Schnider.

This selection represents a rare body of work in Albrecht Schnider's career. The pastels are playful, they seem to evade the paper. Their lines contract and expand, distorting time and space, only to put it back in front of our eyes in a way we had never seen.

Albrecht Schnider, born in 1958 in Lucerne, works in painting, drawing and small-scale sculpture. The artist’s complex image construction process is both creative and constructive; beginning within the dialogically-linked act of drawing and the analysis of shape, to the choice of color and form.
